Welcome to Tracing Joy

Welcome to Tracing Joy. The task I have set myself is to find joy in the everyday. So often I catch myself saying “if only this” or “if only that.” But the “if onlys” are a blight on our lives. They stop us seeing the joy and happiness right in front of us. And today the bar was raised for me as I was diagnosed with a tumor on my salivary gland. The joy is that 80% of such tumours are benign. The greater joy is that my daughter and granddaughter visited. There is such joy in the love of a child, especially when she says, “Won’t you come home with us today?”

I chose this image of the Fractal images in fire by Robert Johnstone as my emblem for my first post because it reminds me of veins in our bodies, in leaves, gold in ore… life running through us, even in the darkness sometimes. Johnstone’s image shows us something we can’t see with the naked eye. Sometimes joy is like that too. We have to learn to see with the eyes of the spirit, which reveals a beauty and truth we don’t even suspect.
